RoboDynamics Corporation Announces
Collaboration with Microsoft Corp
Beverly Hills, CA/Cambridge, MA - March 8th, 2004 - RoboDynamics announced
today a new suite of robotic solutions using Microsoft Windows XP Embedded and robo-centric software and hardware modules from RoboDynamics. The announcement
was made on the eve of the "Emerging Robotics Technologies &
Applications" conference, the first business-centric robotics conference to
take place in North America.
"The collaboration between our respective companies allows us a faster time-to-market using the industry standard components already existing in the Windows XP Embedded software platform," said Fred Nikgohar, Chief Executive Officer of RoboDynamics. "Furthermore, as a Window Embedded Partner we are given the opportunity to showcase our products and solutions through the marketing arm of the Windows Embedded Devices Group."
"Windows XP Embedded delivers the power of the Windows operating system in a componentized form, enabling partners like RoboDynamics to rapidly build reliable and advanced embedded devices," said Jane Gilson, group product manager for the Embedded Devices Group at Microsoft Corp. "As a Windows Embedded Partner, RoboDynamics exemplifies how Windows XP Embedded enables manufacturers to quickly create cutting-edge products."
Due to be released later this year in time for the Christmas season, RoboDynamics' Robotic Personal Assistant (RPA) is a four-foot tall robot that behaves much like a personal secretary. The robot will feature a VIA EPIA Series Mini-ITX mainboard and will run Windows XP Embedded. This yet to be named robot will be available on a limited basis through the company's website and select channel partners.
The drastic drop in the cost-to-performance ratio of off the shelf components such as web-cams and 802.11 modules allow for significant advances in commercially viable robotic technologies, including personal and service robots. This continued advancement also means the beginning of a nascent industry - one with potentially exponential growth over the next five to ten years.
"VIA sees x86-based platforms and standards as the key to accelerating the commercial development progress of the robotics industry. " said Timothy Brown VIA Robotics Program Manager "RoboDynamics and their exciting new Robotic Personal Assistant based on a VIA EPIA Mini-ITX mainboard are proof positive that is already happening."
