Los Angeles, CA – October 21, 2004 – RoboDynamics announced the release of MILO, world’s first Robotic Personal Assistant platform, under it’s Early Adopters Program which runs through the end of the year.
MILO, a personal mobile robot which stands over three and half feet tall, is equipped with a PC, camera, and 802.11 technologies enabling it to transmit live video/audio over the network and internet. MILO’s features include:
- Tall and sturdy chassis and large treaded wheels capable of negotiating industrial ramps.
- Fully functional x86 PC running Windows XP Home with 20GB hard disk and 256MB of RAM – allowing users to use MILO as a personal computer.
- Client-side command and control software allowing users to drive MILO from remote over the internet and receive live video/audio feed.
- A powerful SDK including robot-side and client-side APIs that allow users to create “robotic applications”.
The Early Adopter’s Program is designed to encourage robot developers into developing robotic applications by giving them a flexible and powerful platform and tools necessary to create such applications. “Our goal is to identify and support a talented community of developers with a strong vision for creating robotic applications” said Fred Nikgohar, CEO of RoboDynamics Corp. “By providing a ubiquitous platform such as MILO such efforts are now possible, and we are very excited by the onset of people who have signed up for the program.”
Benefits of the Early Adopter’s Program include:
- Heavily discounted MILO robot and associated software
- Direct access to RoboDynamics’ engineers for support
- Advanced notice on future developments at RoboDynamics
Falling price-to-performance of commodity components such as the small form-factor PCs from VIA Technologies now enable the personal/mobile robotics as an up-and-coming industry.
“A successful commercial robotics industry needs the standards, reliability, power, connectivity and price point of the more mature PC industry.” said Richard Brown, VIA Vice President International Marketing. “VIA’s continually shrinking, low power, x86 platforms give robots like MILO the ability to be truly useful at a reasonable price.”
Both RoboDynamics Corporation and VIA Technologies will be present at Robonexus, the first North American business-centric robotic tradeshow to be held in Santa Clara, California, October 21st through 23rd.
